Men’s soccer team loses to Trine, 4-0
The Olivet College men’s soccer team slipped into fourth-place in the MIAA standings with a 4-0 loss to Trine (Ind.) University this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the loss, the Comets have a 7-5 MIAA record, while the Thunder improve their MIAA record to 7-4-1.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team slipped into fourth-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with a 4-0 loss to Trine (Ind.) University this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the loss, the Comets have a 7-5 MIAA record, while the Thunder improve their MIAA record to 7-4-1.
Trine took a 1-0 lead at halftime behind a goal by Foster Webb in the 31st minute. The Thunder stretched their lead to 2-0 when a player gathered a rebound off the post and buried the shot into goal in the 69th minute. Trine put the game away with two goals in the final 20 minutes of the game.
In defeat, 27 Olivet players saw action. Both teams had 11 shots, with the Comets having an 8-6 in shots-on-goal. Freshman Esteban Russell (DeWitt) led the way with three shots, while two others each had two. Freshman Alex Lang (West Bloomfield/Detroit Catholic Central) played the first half in goal and made one save. Freshman Matt Van Houten (Northville) played the final 45 minutes in goal.
Olivet will travel to play first-place Calvin College Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
