Men’s soccer team blanked by Hope, 3-0
The Olivet College men's soccer team fell to Hope College, 3-0, tonight under the lights at Van Andel Soccer Stadium in Holland. With the win, Hope moves up to second-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with a 7-3-1 record (22 points). Olivet slips to third-place with a 7-4 record (21 points).

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team fell to Hope College, 3-0, tonight under the lights at Van Andel Soccer Stadium in Holland. With the win, Hope moves up to second-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with a 7-3-1 record (22 points). Olivet slips to third-place with a 7-4 record (21 points).
The Flying Dutchmen took a 1-0 lead on a header off a corner kick in the 32nd minute. Hope gained a two-goal advantage with a goal off a free kick from 25 yards out in the 59th minute. The Dutchmen capped the scoring with another header goal at the 67:34 mark.
Olivet finished the game with 11 shots. Freshman Esteban Russell (DeWitt) had four shots, while sophomore Adam Wright (South End, England/Walled Lake Western) had three. Four others each had one. Freshman Alex Lang (West Bloomfield/Detroit Catholic Central) started and played the first 75 minutes and 8 seconds in goal, collecting three saves and facing 10 shot. Freshman Matt Van Houten (Northville) completed the game in net.
The Comets are back in action Tuesday, Oct. 25, when they host Trine (Ind.) University at 4 p.m.
