ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team extended its shutout streak with a 3-0 win over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College today at Alumni Field in Albion. With the win, the Comets have not allowed a goal in 583 minutes, 3 seconds of game time.
Olivet got on the scoreboard at the 26:40 mark on freshman Patrick Lamp's (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) first collegiate goal. Junior Matt Garza (Saline) and sophomore Adam Wright (South End, England/Walled Lake Western) each received an assist on the goal.
The Comets scored another goal less than two minutes off a corner kick. Freshman Judd Sikkema (Augusta/Gull Lake) sent the ball into the box on the corner, and junior Cole Dehen (Kentwood/East Kentwood) knocked the ball past the keeper. The score stayed 2-0 at halftime.
Eleven minutes and 31 seconds into the second half, Olivet scored its third goal. Off a long throw in by Dehen, freshman Jon Puente (Kalamazoo/Galesburg Augusta) headed ball down into the net.
The Comets finished the game with just six shots, including two for Puente. Freshman Alex Lang (West Bloomfield/Detroit Catholic Central) and junior Sam Cusmano (Haslett) combined for the shutout in goal. Each keeper made one save.
Olivet will be back in action Saturday afternoon when it travels to play Alma College. Game time from Scotland Yard is 2:30 p.m.
