ELMHURST, Ill. – The Olivet College men's soccer team was shutout by Elmhurst (Ill.) College, 2-0, tonight at Langhorst Field in Elmhurst, Illinois.
The Bluejays scored their first goal in the 12th minute off a free kick. The score stayed that way until the 68th minute when Elmhurst netted an insurance goal on a header.
Olivet was out-shot 11-8, but both teams had five shots on-goal. Freshman Esteban Russell (Lansing/Everett) placed two shots-on-goal. Freshman Alex Lang (West Bloomfield/Detroit Catholic Central) played the first half in goal. He faced six shots and made two saves. Freshman Matt Van Houten (Northville) was the keeper for the second half, and he collected one save on five shots.
"Elmhurst was a good team," said Olivet Head Coach Chad Wiseman. "I thought we lacked some energy tonight. We will learn from our mistakes, as we now to turn our attention to Thursday's game."
The Comets will play their home-opener Thursday afternoon when Spring Arbor University visits the Cutler Athletic Complex for a 5 p.m. game.
