Men’s lacrosse team rallies but falls short against Trine, 7-5
A valiant comeback came up short, as the Olivet College men’s lacrosse fell to Trine (Ind.) University, 7-5, today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. Down 7-1 in the third quarter, the Comets scored the final four goals and had several other great scoring opportunities late in the game.

The Thunder scored the only three goals of the first quarter. Olivet scored a man-up goal with 3:27 left in the second quarter when senior Dakota Badder took a pass from junior Nino Minaudo and buried a shot into the goal. Trine got another goal late in the second period to go up 4-1 at halftime.
The Thunder extended their lead to 7-1 with three goals in a four-and-half minute span. Minaudo tallied an unassisted goal with 1:01 left in the third quarter. Junior Tyler Polendo found the back of the cage with 11:29 left in the game.
Freshman Bryce Drew added a goal off a feed from Badder at the 9:46 mark before Polendo had another goal with 8:20 left. The Comets out-shot Trine 5-0 over the final eight minutes of the game.
Polendo finished the game with two goals. Badder and Minaudo had a goal and assist apiece for two points. Minaudo and Polendo each took six shots, placing five on-goal. Senior Ryan McGee was in goal for all 60 minutes and collected nine saves.
Olivet will travel to play Albion Friday night at 7 p.m. for its regular-season finale. The Comets are tied with the Thunder for third-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings. The top four teams will advance will advance to the 2016 MIAA Tournament.
