DANVILLE, Ky. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team fell to Centre (Ky.) College, 10-9, this afternoon at Farris Stadium in Danville, Kentucky.
The Comets grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first minute and six seconds of the game. The first was an unassisted tally by junior Logan Krieger and the second was a goal by senior Dakota Badder off a pass from junior Nino Minaudo. Matt Hughes scored twice for the Colonels to tie the game at 2-2.
Minaudo put Olivet back on top with a goal off a feed from junior Tyler Polendo. After Centre tied the game at 3-3, sophomore Nate Roberts gave the lead back to the Comets with a goal. Minaudo assisted on the goal.
The Colonels scored the first four goals of the second quarter to take a 7-4 lead. Two Comet goals were sandwiched around a Centre goal to make the score 8-6 at halftime.
Olivet scored the only three goals in the third quarter to go up 9-8. Krieger netted the first one, followed by Minaudo from Polendo to tie the game, and freshman Bryce Drew with the go-ahead goal. The Colonels tied the game at 9-9 with 5:28 left in the fourth quarter, and then scored what proved to be the game-winner with 2:23 remaining.
Minaudo posted a game-high six points on three goals and three assists. Krieger and Roberts each had two goals, while Krieger had an assist for three total points. Junior Charlie Haesler shared game-best honors with seven ground balls. Senior Ryan McGee played all 60 minutes in between the pipes and collected 14 saves.
The Comets are idle until next Saturday, March 12, when they play a 4 p.m. EST game at Benedictine (Ill.) University.
