Men’s lacrosse: Olivet concludes 2015 campaign with 26-13 loss to top-seed Albion
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team was defeated by Albion College, 26-13, tonight in the semifinals of the 2015 MIAA Tournament at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium in Albion.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Albion College, 26-13, tonight in the semifinals of the 2015 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium in Albion.
The Britons raced out to a 3-0 lead before sophomore Dakota Badder scored back-to-back goals for the Comets to make the score 3-2 at the 6:53 mark. After Albion scored another goal, Olivet scored two goals in a 42-second span to tie the game at 4-4. The Britons netted the final two goals of the opening quarter to take a 6-4 lead.
Albion opened the second stanza by scoring 10 straight goals to go up 14-4 with 5:48 left before halftime. The Comets scored five of the final six goals of the half to trail by a 15-9 score at the break.
The Britons out-scored Olivet, 7-0, in the third quarter to take 22-9 lead. The teams traded the first four goals of the fourth quarter for a 24-11 score. Albion scored two more goals to extend its lead to 26-11 before the Comets scored the last two goals of the game.
For the game, Badder shared game-high honors with seven points on four goals and three assists. Sophomore Nino Minaudo also scored four goals. Sophomore Tyler Polendo had two goals, while senior Sheldon Berry, junior James Collins and sophomore Shane Prunty had one goal apiece. Prunty and sophomore Logan Krieger each dished out one assist.
Sophomore Charlie Haesler posted team-highs in ground balls (six) and caused turnovers (two). In goal, junior Ryan McGee played the first 49 minutes and 44 seconds, allowed 24 goals and made 16 saves. Sophomore David Smith finished the game in goal and collected two saves.
