Men’s lacrosse: Olivet ends regular season with 16-8 loss at Adrian
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team closed out its regular season schedule with a 16-8 loss to defending MIAA champion Adrian College this afternoon at Docking Stadium in Adrian.
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team closed out its regular season schedule with a 16-8 loss to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Adrian College this afternoon at Docking Stadium in Adrian.
After sophomore Logan Krieger put the Comets ahead 1-0 with a goal at the 13:01 mark of the first quarter, the Bulldogs scored four straight goals to go up 4-1. Junior James Collins netted two straight goals to cut Olivet's deficit to 4-3. Adrian scored right before the end of the quarter to take 5-3 after one. The teams split the four goals in the second quarter to make the score 7-5 at halftime.
The Bulldogs scored three of the first four goals of the third quarter for a 10-6 lead. The Comets got two goals back to trail by two, 10-8, with 3:38 left in the quarter. Adrian answered 19 seconds later and led 11-8 after 45 minutes of play. The Bulldogs then out-scored Olivet, 5-0, in the fourth quarter.
For the game, sophomore Nino Minaudo tied for game-high honors with five points with two goals and three assists. Collins had an assist to go along with his two goals for three points. Sophomore Dakota Badder also recorded three points on two goals and an assist. Sophomore Tyler Polendo finished with a goal and an assist. Badder registered a team-leading seven shots. Junior Ryan McGee was the losing goalkeeper after allowing the 16 goals on 38 shots, while making eight saves.
The Comets have secured a spot in the 2015 MIAA Tournament. The game days and times will not be determined until the conclusion of regular season play next week.
NOTE: Olivet has a 3-3 MIAA record. Hope has a 1-3 MIAA, with two league games left to play. Even if Hope wins both games, the Comets own the tiebreaker due to their head-to-head victory over the Flying Dutchmen.
