Men’s lacrosse: Badder and Ranson lead Olivet past Calvin, 14-5
Juniors Dakota Badder and Jack Ranson each scored seven points to lead the Olivet College men’s lacrosse team to a 14-5 win over Calvin College this afternoon at Zuidema Field in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Juniors Dakota Badder and Jack Ranson each scored seven points to lead the Olivet College men's lacrosse team to a 14-5 win over Calvin College this afternoon at Zuidema Field in Grand Rapids.
The Comets out-scored the Knights 4-1 in each of the first three quarters of play for a 12-3 lead after 45 minutes. In the first quarter, Badder scored twice, while Ranson and sophomore Logan Krieger each had one. In the second quarter, four different Olivet players – Badder, Krieger, senior Sheldon Berry and sophomore Nino Minaudo – found the back of the net. The third quarter was the same as the second, as Badder, Minaudo, Ranson and freshman Nate Roberts scored a goal apiece. It was the first collegiate goal for Roberts.
The teams split the four fourth-quarter goals. For the Comets, Roberts scored off a feed from Ranson, and Ranson scored an unassisted tally.
For the game, the Comets recorded a single-game school-record 70 shots, with Badder and Ranson collecting 14 each. Badder had four goals and three assists for his seven points, while Ranson had three goals and four assists for his seven points. Minaudo and Roberts also each tallied an assist to go along with their two goals for three points apiece. Junior Ryan McGee was the starting keeper and made saves in 45 minutes. Sophomore David Smith finished the game in goal.
The Comets (4-6, 2-0 MIAA) host preseason MIAA favorite Albion College next Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
