Men’s lacrosse: Olivet doubled up by John Carroll, 18-9
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with an 18-9 loss to John Carroll today at the Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with an 18-9 loss to John Carroll University today at the Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio.
The Blue Streaks took a 4-0 lead with four goals in the first four minutes and 35 seconds of the opening quarter. After sophomore Shane Prunty scored an unassisted goal to make the score 4-1, John Carroll netted the final two goals of the quarter for a 6-1 advantage.
The Comets trimmed their deficit down to two, 6-4, with three straight goals to start the second quarter. The teams traded goals for a 7-5 score before the Blue Streaks scored twice late in the quarter to take a 9-5 lead at halftime.
Olivet out-scored John Carroll, 3-1, in the third quarter to make the score 10-8 enter the final quarter. The Blue Streaks scored eight of the nine goals, including the first six, in the fourth quarter to pull out the 18-9 victory.
Not only did John Carroll double up Olivet in goals, 18-9, but they also did in total shots, 52-26. Junior Dakota Badder led the way for the Comets with five points, four goals and one assist, and seven shots. Junior James Collins also had seven shots to go along with two goals. Prunty, junior Jack Ranson and sophomore Logan Krieger each scored one goal, while sophomore Tyler Polendo dished out two assists. Junior Ryan McGee played all 60 minutes in goal and collected 17 saves.
The Comets now turn their attention to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, which begins next Tuesday, March 31, with a home against Trine (Ind.) University. Opening face-off from the Cutler Athletic Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.
