Men’s lacrosse ends season with 19-6 loss at Adrian in MIAA Tournament semifinals
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team closed out the 2014 season with a 19-6 loss to Adrian College tonight in the semifinals of the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament at Docking Stadium in Adrian.
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team closed out the 2014 season with a 19-6 loss to Adrian College tonight in the semifinals of the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament at Docking Stadium in Adrian.
Adrian scored three straight goals, including two in a row in a 22-second span, to open the game. Freshman Nino Minaudo (Rochester Hills/Stoney Creek) got the Comets on the scoreboard at the 7:53 mark. After the Bulldogs scored, sophomore Dakota Badder (Troy/Athens) netted a man-up goal with 3:15 left in the opening quarter. Adrian added another goal to make the score 5-2 after one quarter.
The Bulldogs started the second quarter with a 5-0 scoring flurry break the game open and take a 10-2 lead. The teams traded goals for the rest of the quarter, as Adrian took a 13-4 lead at halftime. Eric Fannell scored three goals for the Bulldogs in the third quarter. Adrian out-scored Olivet by one, 3-2, in the fourth quarter to earn the victory and advance to host Albion College in the MIAA Tournament championship game Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
For the game, sophomore Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) scored two goals. Badder, Minaudo, freshman Tyler Polendo (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and sophomore Jack Ranson (Nobleton, Ontario/St. Michael's) each netted one goal. Junior Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) allowed 18 goals and made 11 saves, while playing 55 minutes in net.
The Comets finish their season with a 9-8 overall record.
