Men’s lacrosse team beats Alma, 17-9
Sophomores Cameron Bazin and James Collins each scored five goals to lead the Olivet College men’s lacrosse team to a 17-9 win over Alma College tonight at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – Sophomores Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) and James Collins (Ada/Lowell) each scored five goals to lead the Olivet College men's lacrosse team to a 17-9 win over Alma College tonight at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
After the Scots scored the first goal of the game, the Comets netted nine consecutive goals, including a 6-0 margin in the second quarter. Bazin had three straight, including the last one which skipped into the goal from 30 yards out with two seconds left in the opening period. In the second period, Collins scored three goals, sophomore Dakota Badder (Troy/Athens) scored twice and freshman Tyler Polendo (Battle Creek/Lakeview) had one.
Alma came out in the second half, and doubled up the Comets, 6-3, to trim its deficit down to 12-7 after three quarters of play. Olivet scored off the opening face-off of the fourth quarter as freshman Nino Minaudo (Rochester Hills/Stoney Creek) found the back of the net off a pass from Badder.
The Scots responded with a goal, but it was not enough. Olivet scored the final four goals of the game. With 5:45 left, Bazin scored his 31st goal of the season and the 100th goal of his career in a Comet uniform. Then with 1:34 left, Collins tallied his 37th goal of this season, which was also his 100th career goal.
For the game, Olivet out-shot Alma, 47-25, including a 21-1 advantage in the second quarter. Bazin led the way with 10 shots, followed by Minaudo with eight, and Badder and Collins with seven apiece. Bazin also had three assists to go along with his five goals for a game-high eight points.
Minaudo scored three goals and recorded three assists for six points. Badder finished with two goals and three assists for five points. Freshman Josh Lee (Rochester Hills/Stoney Creek) won 11 face-offs, as the Comets on 15-of-29 as a team. Junior Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) earned the win in between the pipes. He allowed three goals and made 11 saves, while playing 53 minutes and 44 seconds.
Olivet travels to play Hope College Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
