Men’s lacrosse team falls to Trine, 10-7, in MIAA-opener

With the score tied at 5-5 entering the fourth quarter of play, the Thunder scored only 18 seconds into the period to take a 6-5 lead. Trine netted four more goals to go up 10-5 before freshmen Shane Prunty (Beaverton, Oregon/Southridge) and Nino Minaudo (Rochester Hills/Stoney Creek) scored the Comets' two goals in the final period.
Freshman Logan Krieger (Traverse City/Central) scored the Comets' first goal at the 13:19 mark of the first quarter. After Trine tied the game, Minaudo put Olivet ahead with a goal off a pass from sophomore Dakota Badder (Troy/Athens) with 3:58 left in the opening quarter.
Olivet extended its lead to 3-1 on Minaudo's goal in the third minute of the second period. The Thunder knotted the score at 3-3 with a pair of goals in only a 19-second span. Trine grabbed its first lead of the game on a goal with a little more than two minutes left before halftime. The score stayed 4-3 at the break.
The Thunder added another goal only one minute and seven seconds into the second half to take a 5-3 lead. Sophomore Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) scored off a feed from sophomore Jack Ranson (Nobleton, Ontario/St. Michael's) at the 13:16 mark to cut Olivet's deficit down to one, 5-4.
Bazin had his shot blocked by the defense, but he was able to scoop up the ground ball and fire his next shot into the goal to tie the game at 5-5 with 4:55 left in the third quarter. Trine surged ahead by three goals, 8-5, by scoring three goals in the first three minutes and 26 seconds of the final quarter.
Despite the loss, Minaudo led Olivet with three goals. Bazin had two goals to go along with a team-leading nine shots and five ground balls. Krieger finished with a goal and two assists for three points. Between the pipes, junior Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) broke the single-game school record with 20 saves, while facing 53 Trine shots.
Olivet (6-5, 0-1 MIAA) travels to play Albion College Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m.
