Men’s lacrosse team routs Dubuque, 19-1

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team scored a season-high 19 goals en route to a 19-1 win over University of Dubuque (Iowa) this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

The Comets scored five goals in each of the first two quarters to build a 10-0 halftime lead. Olivet added four more goals in the third quarter to take a 14-0 lead. The Comets put three goals on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter before the Spartans scored their only goal. Olivet scored the last two goals to create the final score.

Overall, the Comets recorded 17 assists, which is the second-most in a single-game in school history. In addition, Olivet broke the single-game record with 67 ground balls. Individually, sophomore James Collins (Lowell) had a team-high nine points (five goals and four assists), which ties him for the third-best single-game point total in school history.

Sophomore Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) finished with four goals and four assists for eight points. Freshman Nino Minaudo (Rochester Hills/Stoney Creek) had seven points on four goals and three assists. Freshman Shane Prunty (Beaverton, Ontario/Southridge) added four points (two goals and two assists).

Freshman Tyler Polendo (Grand Rapids/Northview) also had two goals. Sophomore Dakota Badder (Troy/Athens) finished with a goal and two assists for three points. Sophomore Jack Ranson (Nobleton, Ontario/St. Michael's) had one goal and one assist for two points, while sophomore Matt Arb (Troy/Athens) tallied one assist.

Senior Kyle Borek (Lansing/Holt) caused five turnovers, which ties for the second-most in a game in school history. Sophomore Sheldon Berry (Traverse City/Central) won 12-of-17 face-offs. As a team, Olivet tied the single-game record with 18 face-off wins.

Freshman David Smith (Royal Oak) and sophomore Hunter Teare (Trumbull, Conn.) split time between the pipes. Smith was in the cage for the first half and made two saves, while facing four shots. Teare allowed the only goal on five shots, with two saves in 30 minutes of second-half play.

Olivet plays its final non-conference game Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan University. Game time is 2 p.m. CST.
