Men's lacrosse team extends win streak to three with 12-6 win over Beloit
The Olivet College men's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to a season-high three games with a 12-6 win over Beloit (Wis.) College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to a season-high three games with a 12-6 win over Beloit (Wis.) College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Comets got on the scoreboard first only two minutes into the game when sophomore James Collins (Lowell) scored off a pass from sophomore Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens). Freshman Nino Minaudo (Rochester Hills/Stoney Creek) added another goal for Olivet with 3:43 left in the opening period. Beloit scored an unassisted goal to trail 2-1 after one quarter.
The Comets found the back of the net twice in an 81-second span to go up 4-1. The first goal was scored by sophomore Dakota Badder (Troy/Athens) after receiving a pass from Collins, and the second was an unassisted goal by sophomore Matt Arb (Troy/Athens). The Bucs scored the final two goals of the second quarter, including the last with three seconds left, to cut their deficit down to one, 4-3, at halftime.
The difference in the game ended up being the third quarter, as Olivet out-scored Beloit, 5-1. Minaudo scored the first goal off a feed from Collins. The Comets then had two straight goals separated by only 33 seconds of clock time, with Bazin scoring at the 9:58 mark and Badder scoring at the 9:25 mark. The Bucs added a man-up goal before Olivet tallied the last two goals of the quarter. Bazin had the first goal, while Minaudo had the second goal.
Beloit scored less than a minute into the final period. The Comets responded by scoring two goals, one each for Badder and Bazin. The Bucs netted a goal before Badder scored the final goal of the game with 1:59 left.
Offensively, Bazin led Olivet with five points, three goals and two assists, 12 shots and nine groundballs. Badder scored a game-high four goals. Collins also had four points, including a team-leading three assists. Minaudo tallied three goals and nine shots, with a team-high eight placed on-net. In goal, junior Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) collected 19 saves.
The Comets are back in action Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. when they host Concordia (Wis.) University.
