Men’s lacrosse team loses to Oberlin, 12-4, in season-opener
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team fell to Oberlin (Ohio) College in its season-opener tonight inside the Detroit Country Day School Fieldhouse in Beverly Hills.
BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team fell to Oberlin (Ohio) College in its season-opener tonight inside the Detroit Country Day School Fieldhouse in Beverly Hills.
The Yeomen opened the scoring with three straight goals in the first four minutes and eight seconds of the game. Olivet got on the scoreboard at the 9:57 mark of the opening quarter when freshman Nino Minaudo (Rochester Hills/Stoney Creek) scored off a feed from freshman Logan Krieger (Traverse City/Central).
Oberlin tallied seven straight goals – two in the first quarter and five in the second quarter – to take a commanding 10-1 lead. Sophomore Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) scored an unassisted man-down goal in the final seconds of the second stanza for the Comets to make the score 10-2.
There was no scoring in the third quarter. The Yeomen found the back of the net twice in a span of 43 seconds in the fourth quarter. Olivet got those two goals back later in the quarter. At the 7:18 mark, Bazin scored his second goal of the game. With 2:40 left in the game, sophomore James Collins (Lowell) struck for a goal after receiving a pass from Krieger.
The difference in the game was Oberlin won 16-of-19 faceoffs and had a 46-34 advantage in total shots. For the Comets, Bazin led the way with nine shots, placing seven on-goal. Freshman Tyler Poldeno (Battle Creek/Lakeview) finished with five shots.
Between the pipes, junior Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) made 14 saves, while playing almost 57 of the 60 minutes. Freshman David Smith (Royal Oak) was in net for the final three minutes.
Olivet is scheduled to host Wilmington (Ohio) College next Wednesday, March 5, at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet, starting at 7 p.m.
