Men's lacrosse team defeats Alma, 16-6, for first-ever MIAA win

ALMA, Mich. – An 8-0 run to start the second half helped the Olivet College men's lacrosse team defeat Alma College, 16-6, this afternoon at Bahlke Field in Alma for its first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) win.

Freshman Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) put the Comets ahead 2-0 with a pair of unassisted goals in the first seven minutes and 18 seconds of the game. The Scots answered with three straight goals to end the first quarter, including the last one with seven seconds left.

Olivet responded with its own 3-0 run to start the second quarter for a 5-3 lead. Freshman Sheldon Berry (Mason) scored the first goal, while Bazin had the other two. Freshmen Matt Arb (Troy/Athens) and Dakota Badder (Troy/Athens) were each given an assist on Bazin's goals. Alma made the score 5-4 with 5:58 left before halftime, and the score remained that at the intermission.

The Comets shut-out Alma, 5-0, in the third quarter, to take a 10-4 advantage. Bazin and freshman James Collins (Lowell) both scored twice, while freshman Jack Ranson (Nobleton, Ontario/St. Michael's) had one goal. Olivet continued its run by scoring the first three goals to start the fourth quarter, including freshman Holden Price (Mason) with his first collegiate goal only 19 seconds into the period.

Bazin led all scorers with 10 points on seven goals and three assists. He also posted game-highs in shots (16), shots-on-goal (13), groundballs (eight) and caused turnovers (two). Bazin also did a great job holding onto the ball, as he had only one turnover. Collins finished the game with three goals and two assists for five points. Badden and Ranson each had two goals.

Price collected wins on 9-of-15 face-offs. In the cage, sophomore Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) made 14 saves on 32 Alma shots.

The Comets will play Hope College Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be at Lowell High School.
