Men’s golf team places 14th at Lou Collins Memorial
The Olivet College men’s golf team placed 14th of 16 schools at the 2017 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament, played at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team placed 14th of 16 schools at the 2017 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament, played at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After shooting a 328 team score in Friday's first round, the Comets lowered their team score by five strokes in today's round for a two-day total of 651.
- University of Northwestern Ohio won the team title over Hope College by nine strokes, 575-584. Madonna University took third at 601, followed by Grand Rapids Community College, 607; and Kalamazoo College, 608; to round out the top 5 teams.
- Lewis Scott from UNOH was the tournament medalist with a two-round total of 140 strokes, including a four-under par 68 in today's second round.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Nicholas Hoffman had back-to-back 78s for a two-day total of 156 strokes.
- Senior Tanor Blowers improved by one stroke today with an 80 for a two-round total of 161 strokes.
- Freshman Cameron Lemon had the most improvement in the second round. After carding an 85 in the first round, he shot an 81 in the second round for a 166 total.
- Senior Joey Richmond posted a pair of 84s for a two-day total of 168 strokes.
- Sophomore Zach Sturgill finished with a 186 (90-96).
- Olivet also had five individual scorers in the 105-player field.
- Senior Joseph Gauck topped this group with two 83s for a 166 total.
- Freshman Jake Andrews was next at 170 (86-84), followed by senior Sam Knoechel, 174 (86-88); freshman Ethan Sharp, 178 (88-90); and senior Michael O'Brien, 179 (86-93).

- Olivet plays in the two-day Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9-10, at the Plumbrook Country Club in Sandusky, Ohio.
