BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team is in 15th-place after the first day of the 2017 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets carded a 328 team score.
- Hope College holds a one-stroke lead over University of Northwestern Ohio in the team standings, 291-292. Kalamazoo College shot a 299, followed by Madonna University, 304; and Trine (Ind.) University, 308.
- Kade Hoeksema from Hope and Nick Ludka from Kalamazoo share the first-round lead in the player standings with two-under par 70s.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Nicholas Hoffman shot a team-best 78. His rounded included a birdie on Hole No. 7.
- Senior Tanor Blowers was next with an 81. He had birdies on Hole No. 9 and 16.
- Senior Joey Richmond completed his round in 84 strokes.
- Freshman Cameron Lemon was a stroke behind with an 85.
- Sophomore Zach Sturgill rounded out Olivet's starting five with a 90.
- The Comets also had five golfers play as an individual. Senior Joseph Gauck led this group with an 83.
- Freshman Jake Andrews, and seniors Sam Knoechel and Michael O'Brien each had an 86.
- Freshman Ethan Sharp finished with an 88.
