BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team sits in 11th-place after the first round of the 2016 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets posted a 331 team score. Kalamazoo College has a one-stroke lead over Hope College in the team standings, 290-291. Madonna University is a close third at 295. Five strokes separate the next four schools. Wheaton (Ill.) College is fourth at 302, followed by Calvin College, 305; Trine (Ind.) University, 306; and Cleary University, 307.
- Three golfers – Eric Attard from Madonna, Andrew Goble from Hope and Nick Ludka from Kalamazoo – share first-place in the player standings with one under pars 71.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Matt Sherry led Olivet with a six-over par 78, with a 39 on the front and back nine.
- Junior Tanor Blowers completed his round in 80 strokes.
- Playing in their first competitive collegiate rounds, freshmen Zach Sturgill, Logan Stefanko and Garret Tanner finished with 85, 88 and 91 respectively.

- The Comets will play the second round of the tournament tomorrow. Action gets under way with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
