Men’s golf team places seventh at last jamboree to also finish seventh in overall standings
The Olivet College men’s golf team finished in seventh-place in the last MIAA jamboree of the season today to also place seventh in the final league standings.
WEST OLIVE, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team finished in seventh-place in the last Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) jamboree of the season today to also place seventh in the final league standings.
In today's final round at the Wuskowhan Players Club in West Olive, the Comets had a 326 team score. Calvin College was first with a 292. Hope College and Trine (Ind.) University tied for second-place with 300s. Adrian College was fourth at 302, followed by Albion College in fifth at 305 and Kalamazoo College in sixth at 306. Alma College finished behind Olivet with a 330.
Junior Matt Sherry shared 10th-place with other golfer in the player standings with a three-over par 74, which was his best round of the season. He had a 34 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine.
Sophomore Tanor Blowers carded a 41 on the front and back nines for an 82. Junior Zachary Gray shot an 84, including a 41 on the first nine holes. Senior Benjamin Hart had an 86. Playing the last round of his collegiate career against MIAA rivals, senior Jake Maas completed it in 88 strokes.
Hope edged Calvin by five strokes to win its third straight MIAA championship. Trine was third and Kalamazoo was fourth. These four teams advance to a three-round playoff in the spring to determine the league's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA DIII National Championships. Olivet finished ahead of Alma in the final standings.
