Men’s golf: Olivet finishes in sixth-place at final jamboree, seventh in overall standings
The Olivet College men’s golf team finished in sixth-place at the eighth and final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree today on its home course, the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team finished in sixth-place at the eighth and final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree today on its home course, the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. By virtue of the finish, the Comets placed seventh in the final league standings.
In today's round, Olivet totaled 321 strokes to edge Albion College by one. Alma was a distant eighth at 357. Trine (Ind.) University took first-place at 297, followed by Calvin, 299; Hope, 302; Adrian, 312; and Kalamazoo, 317.
Freshman Tanor Blowers tied for sixth-place in the player standings with a 75. Junior Joseph Gauck completed his round in 80 strokes. Junior Benjamin Hart was a stroke behind with an 81. Sophomore Matt Sherry carded an 85. Freshman Alex Bialik rounded out the Comets' starting five with an 89.
Hope held off a late charge from Trine to win the 2014 MIAA Championship by five strokes – 2389-2394. Calvin placed third at 2418, followed by Adrian, 2464. The top four teams advance to the spring qualifying tournament, which determines the league's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA DIII National Championships. Kalamazoo was fifth, 2496, followed by Albion, 2532; Olivet, 2616; and Alma, 2916.
