Men’s golf: Olivet ties for 14th-place at Lou Collins Memorial Tournament
The Olivet College men’s golf team placed tied for 14th-place at the 2014 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament, which was played at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team placed tied for 14th-place at the 2014 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament, which was played at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
Owens Community College (Ohio) beat Calvin College by two strokes, 588-590, to win the team championship. Calvin's John Van Noord was the tournament medalist with a 141.
Freshman Tanor Blowers posted a two-round total of 154 strokes to lead the Comets. Junior Benjamin Hart was next at 160. A stroke separated sophomores Matt Sherry and Joseph Gauck at 168 and 169, respectively. Sherry had the best second-round for Olivet with a 78. Sophomore Zachary Gray completed his two rounds in 184 strokes. Senior Jake Maas was the Comets' top individual scorer with a 176.
Olivet now turn its attention to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play when it makes the trip to Alma next Saturday, Sept. 6, for the first of eight league jamborees. Alma College is hosting the jamboree at the Pine River Country Club.
