Men’s golf: Comets sit in 13th-place after first round of Lou Collins Memorial Tournament
The Olivet College men’s golf team carded a 329 team score to sit in 13th-place after the first round of the 2014 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team carded a 329 team score to sit in 13th-place after the first round of the 2014 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament. The Comets are hosting the tournament at their home course, the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. The second round gets under way tomorrow morning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
Owens Community College (Ohio) leads the 16-team field with a 299. The Comets are one stroke ahead of MIAA-rival Albion College.
Freshman Tanor Blowers leads Olivet with a two-over par 73. He had three birdies, including two on the back nine. Junior Benjamin Hart had a 38 on the front and back nines for a 76. Sophomores Joseph Gauck and Matt Sherry both carded a 90. Sophomore Zachary Gray shot a 94. Four Comets played as an individual scorer, and senior Jake Maas turned in the top performance among them with a 91.
