Men’s golf team finishes in eighth-place at season-opening jamboree
The Olivet College men’s golf team finished in eighth-place at the season-opening Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) jamboree at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
MARSHALL, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team finished in eighth-place at the season-opening Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) jamboree at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
The Comets shot a 331 team score, which just four strokes behind seventh-place Alma College. Hope College took first-place at 317 strokes. The next five teams were separated by only five strokes, with Adrian College placing second at 320, followed by Trine (Ind.) University, 321; Albion College, 322; Calvin, 324; and Kalamazoo, 325.
Freshman Matt Sherry (Salem Township/South Lyon East) was Olivet's top finisher, as he tied for fifth in the player standings with a four-over par 76. Senior Nick Julian (Clinton Twp./Clintondale) was next at 79. Sophomore Benjamin Hart (Rockford/Lowell) completed his round in 85 strokes, while senior Chris Watkins (Bangor) had a 91. Freshman Joseph Gauck (Belding/Lowell) carded a 96.
The second of eight league jamborees is next Friday, Sept. 13, at the Lenawee Country Club in Adrian. The school with the lowest cumulative total after the eight rounds will be crowned the 2013 MIAA champions.
