Men’s golf team places seventh at final MIAA Jamboree, finishes seventh in overall standings
The Olivet College men’s golf team placed seventh at the final MIAA Jamboree today at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. With the finish, the Comets also finish in seventh-place in the final 2012 MIAA standings. In addition, junior Nick Julian has earned first-team All-MIAA honors, while senior Justin Ardelean is a second-team All-MIAA selection.
Julian and Ardelean earn All-MIAA honors
MARSHALL, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team placed seventh at the final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree today at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. With the finish, the Comets also finish in seventh-place in the final 2012 MIAA standings. In addition, junior Nick Julian (Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley) has earned first-team All-MIAA honors, while senior Justin Ardelean (Owosso) is a second-team All-MIAA selection.
The Comets posted a 335 team score. Led by medalists Brandon Skytta and Cameron McKee, Adrian College won the jamboree with a 312 team score. Hope College took second with a 319, followed by Calvin 324, Albion 328, Alma 332 and Trine 334. Skytta and McKee each carded a 78 on the par 72, 6,955-yard course.
Julian tied for third-place in the player standings with a 78. Ardelean was two strokes behind with an 80. Freshman Benjamin Hart (Rockford/Lowell) finished with an 88, while junior Martin Holdren (New Bremen, Ohio) had an 89. Senior Cody Crites (Owosso) needed 96 strokes to complete his round.
Calvin has captured the 2012 championship with an eight-round total of 2,446 strokes. Hope was only 10 strokes behind at 2,456. Two strokes separated third- and fourth-place with Adrian edging Trine, 2473-2475. Alma placed fifth at 2,518, followed by Albion 2,531 and Olivet 2,542.
Julian finished with a 75.1 stroke average over the eight MIAA rounds to rank second among the league leaders. Ardelean posted a 77.3 average.
