Men’s golf team finishes in sixth-place at own tournament
The Olivet College men’s golf team finished in sixth-place at its own season-opening tournament, the 2012 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team finished in sixth-place at its own season-opening tournament, the 2012 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
After recording a 311 team score in Friday's first round, the Comets improved by one stroke today for a two-day total of 621 strokes. Indiana Wesleyan University captured the team title with a 582 (298-284). Madonna University and Owens (Ohio) Community College tied for second with 600s. Alma College was fourth at 613 and Calvin College was fifth 614.
Senior Justin Ardelean (Owosso) was Olivet's best golfer, as he posted a two-round total of 149 strokes (72-77) to tie for 10th in the player standings. Junior Nick Julian (Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley) was two strokes behind at 151, including a team-low 75 in today's round. Senior Cody Crites (Owosso) finished with a 156 (80-76). Freshman Benjamin Hart (Rockford/Lowell) posted a 165 (83-82).
The Comets will begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Milham Park Golf Course in Kalamazoo.
