Men’s golf team is sixth at OWU/Strimer Invitational
The men’s golf team was sixth (out of seven schools) at the 2011 Ohio Wesleyan University/Strimer Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.
DELAWARE, Ohio – The Olivet College men's golf team was sixth (out of seven schools) at the 2011 Ohio Wesleyan University/Strimer Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.
In Saturday's round at the Glenross Golf Club, the Comets posted a 323 team and in today's round at the Oakhaven Golf Club, they lowered their total by one to 322 for a two-day total of 645 strokes. Adrian College hung on to edge the host Battling Bishops by one stroke, 604 (287-317)-605 (296-309), for the team championship. Wooster (Ohio) was third at 625 (301-324), followed by Denison (Ohio), 639 (314-325) and Columbus State Community College, 640 (298-342).
Olivet was led by sophomore Ronnie Fesko (Henderson/Owosso), who tied for 11th-place in the player standings with a two-round total of 156 (77-79) strokes. Senior Cameron LaFountain (Battle Creek/Marshall) was next at 160 (81-79). Freshman Nick Julian (Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley) carded a 165 (81-84), followed by freshman Tyler Swinehart (Plainwell) at 168 (88-80) and freshman Martin Holdren (New Bremen, Ohio/New Bremen) at 171 (84-87).
Freshman Kevin Fields (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) played as individual and had a two-round total of 166 (81-85) strokes.
Over the next week, the Comets will play in two 18-hole tournaments. On Thursday, they will participate in the Spring Arbor University Invitational at the Arbor Hills Golf Course and next Saturday, they will compete in the Trine (Ind.) University Bill Gettig Invitational at the Zollner Golf Course.
