Men’s golf team wins team title at 2008 O.C. Lou Collins Classic
The Olivet College men’s golf team captured the team title at its own tournament, The Lou Collins Classic. The two-day tournament was played on the par-71 Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. Individually, senior Brock Gleadall (Stratford, Ontario/St. Michael’s Catholic) was the tournament medalist, and freshman Drew Lasky (Marshall) joined him on the all-tournament team.

After posting a 295 team score in Friday's opening round, the Comets lowered their team score by two strokes for a two-day total of 588 strokes. Bethel (Ind.) College was the runner-up at 601 (302-299), followed by Warner Southern (Fla.) College at 603 (307-296); Albion College at 606 (300-306); and Huntington (Ind.) University at 608 (297-311).
Gleadall had a 74 in Friday's first round, and then went two-under par in today's round for a two-round total of 143 strokes. Lasky tied for third in the player standings with a 146 (72-74). Senior Eric Ross (Burlington, Ontario/International) tied for seventh with a 148 (75-73). Senior Justin Lesansky (LaSalle, Ontario/International) finished with a 151 (74-77), and sophomore Nick Harless (DeWitt) needed 154 (76-78) strokes to complete his two rounds.
The Olivet "B" team placed in a tie for 12th-place with a two-round total of 633 strokes (311-322). Junior Luke Godin (Barrie, Ontario/Innisdale Secondary) posted a 157 (77-80). Freshman Derek Gokee (Ionia) was one stroke behind with a 158 (78-80). Senior Jacob Johnson (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) tallied a 159 (75-84). After scoring an 82 in Friday's round, freshman Grant Spencer (Olivet) had a two-day total of 162 (82-80) strokes. Sophomore Cameron LaFountain (Marshall) returned to the club house with a 163 (81-82).
Olivet will now open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play when it plays in the first league jamboree next Saturday at Pine River Country Club in Alma. Action gets under way with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
