Men’s golf team wins MIAA Jamboree #5 by one stroke, maintains overall MIAA lead by three strokes
Junior Eric Ross (Burlington, Ontario/International) earned medalist honors with a one-under par 71 to lead the Olivet College men’s golf team to a first-place finish at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #5, which was held today at Bucks Run Golf Course in Mt. Pleasant.
Junior Eric Ross (Burlington, Ontario/International) earned medalist honors with a one-under par 71 to lead the Olivet College men's golf team to a first-place finish at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #5, which was held today at Bucks Run Golf Course in Mt. Pleasant. In the overall league standings, the Comets have a three-stroke lead over Hope College.
In today's round, Olivet posted a 299 team score. Hope was one stroke behind with a 300, followed by Tri-State, 304; Albion, 307; Alma, 308; Calvin, 318; Kalamazoo, 328; and Adrian, 343. After five rounds, the Comets have totaled 1,499 strokes, followed by Hope, 1,502; Albion, 1,550; Alma, 1,556; Tri-State, 1,563; Calvin, 1,611; Kalamazoo, 1,657; and Adrian, 1,658.
Today, Ross had a 37 on the front nine and a 34 on the back nine to beat Albion's Mark McLaughlin by two strokes. Senior Joe Kiss (East Leroy/ Harper Creek) was next for the Comets, tying for third-place in the player standings with a 74 (39-35). The scores for the rest of the Olivet lineup were junior Justin Lesansky (LaSalle, Ontario/International), 75 (38-37); junior Brock Gleadall (Stratford, Ontario/St. Michael's Catholic), 79 (38-41); and sophomore Branden Stewart (Barrie, Ontario/Innisdale Secondary), 88 (49-39).
Among the overall league leaders, Ross stands in second, Kiss is tied for third and Gleadall is fifth. Ross has 369 strokes, followed by 372 for Kiss and 373 for Gleadall.
The Comets will compete at the sixth MIAA jamboree this Saturday at the Lenawee Country Club in Tecumseh. Adrian College is the host school.
