Schipper earns All-MIAA Men’s Basketball honors
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Freshman center Conner Schipper from The University of Olivet has been named to the 2023-24 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Basketball Second Team. All-MIAA honors are based on a player's performance in the 14-game league schedule.
Over the 14 MIAA games, Schipper averaged 12.9 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game. His 161 rebounds and his 52 blocks ranked first among all players. Schipper's best game was a triple double – 21 points, 25 rebounds and 10 blocks – against Adrian College. Overall, he recorded a double-double in eight of the 14 games. Schipper scored a single-game high 27 points in the season-finale against Alma College.
"We're obviously very proud of Conner being able to represent himself and our team with this award," said Olivet head men's basketball coach Sam Hargraves. "He was also one of three nominees for the Defensive Player of the Year award. I was so impressed with Conner's rapid improvement throughout the season. He bought in to our coaching, and he committed himself physically and even more importantly mentally, to becoming a dedicated college basketball player. Conner's personality is infectious amongst our team. He brings so much positive energy to practice daily. I'm so excited for what the future might hold for him, and for maybe a couple other young men who can join him in receiving this incredible honor."
For the entire 25-game schedule, Schipper had a 10.6 scoring and 8.8 rebounding average. He blocked 67 shots to break the single-season school record. Schipper posted a 46.2 field goal percentage (103-of-233) and tallied 10 double-doubles.
