February 14, 2024
HOLLAND, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's basketball team was defeated by Hope College, 95-47, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest this evening at the DeVos Fieldhouse.
- Final Score: Hope 95, Olivet 47
- Location: DeVos Fieldhouse; Holland, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 4-20 overall, 2-11 MIAA; Hope 18-6 overall, 10-3 MIAA
- The Flying Dutchmen raced out to a 14-0 lead in the first four minutes of the contest. The Comets closed the gap to nine points but did not get any closer. Hope held a 28-point advantage, 49-31, at halftime. In the second half, the Flying Dutchmen's lead grew to as many as 51 points.
- Freshmen Aden Hathaway and Nathan Richardson scored nine points apiece.
- Freshman Conner Schipper added eight points, as well as a team-leading eight rebounds.
- Senior Noah Wiswary recorded three assists.
- "I'm not sure exactly why, but clearly we had somewhat of an emotional hangover from our last game," said Olivet head coach Sam Hargraves. " Right from the start, we were not there emotionally, and that translates to the very poor performance in all aspects. We do not have the talent to ever not give maximum effort and expect to hang around with anyone, let alone a very good team. We've got one more opportunity to send our seniors out the right way, and leave a good taste in our mouth going into a very important off season for the returners."
- Olivet closes out its season Saturday at Alma College. Tip-off from Art Smith Arena is 3 p.m.
