Men’s Basketball: Schipper’s double-double leads Olivet past Albion, 64-56

OLIVET, Mich. – Freshman Conner Schipper posted a double-double to help the University of Olivet men's basketball team defeat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Albion College, 64-56, this afternoon inside the Cutler Event Center.

- The Britons led 8-6 at the 16:16 mark of the first half. The Comets used a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 14-8 lead. The lead grew to just seven points, 17-10, before Abion put together a 10-2 spurt to regain the lead, 20-19, with 5:08 showing on the clock. Olivet answered with eight unanswered points for another seven-point lead, 27-20. A Briton free throw in the final second of the half made the score 27-21 at the break.
- The Comets saw their lead increase to 12 points by scoring the first six points of the second half. Olivet kept a double-digit lead until Albion made the score 48-41 with 8:16 remaining in the game. The Comets pushed their advantage back to as many as 13 points, 61-48, at the 3:21 mark. The Britons netted the next eight points to trim their deficit down to five points, 61-56, with 50.4 ticks left. Olivet made 5-of-6 free throws to seal its win.
- Schipper had 21 points and 16 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. He also recorded five assists, five blocks and three steals.
- Freshman Nathan Richardson joined him in double figures with 14 points. He also tallied five assists.
- Freshman Brayden Wine added eight points.
- "After being so close, it's obviously nice to break though and finish a game," said Olivet head coach Sam Hargraves. "We can't be satisfied though. We've got to continue to try to improve. Hopefully we gain some much-needed confidence from this win and generate momentum going forward."
- The Comets travel to Grand Rapids to play Calvin University Wednesday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m.
