Men’s basketball team upends Trine, 90-78, to complete season sweep

University, 90-78, tonight at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet. Trine drops into a tie for first-place in the MIAA standings, and the Comets move a game behind the Thunder and Albion.

OLIVET, Mich. – Four double figure scorers helped the Olivet College men's basketball team beat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Trine (Ind.) University, 90-78, tonight at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet. Trine drops into a tie for first-place in the MIAA standings, and the Comets move a game behind the Thunder and Albion.

- Trine made a three-pointer to start the game and then led 9-8 at the 17:02 mark. The Comets then went on a 16-0 run for a 15-point lead, 24-9, with 12:53 left before halftime. The run was capped by a slam dunk by junior Trevor Manuel. The Comets would then take its largest lead of the game, 33-12, after Manuel made two free throws at the 9:24 mark.
- The Thunder answered with 12 straight points to cut their deficit down to single digits. Three more times, Trine closed the gap to nine points. After the last time, junior Toriano Jackson made a layup right before the halftime buzzer to put the Comets up by double figures, 46-35 at the break.
- Olivet appeared to pull away in the middle of the second half, leading by 19 points, 69-50, at the 11:21 mark. The Thunder fought back to trail by only eight points twice, including 84-76 with 1:05 remaining in the game. The Comets made all six of their free throw attempts to seal their win.
- Manuel posted team-highs in points (29) and rebounds (eight).
- Sophomore Delbert Redfield came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the arc and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
- Senior Diangelo Carlton was next with 11 points.
- Senior John McAdoo scored 10 points.
- Junior Keyon Rainey and freshman Cameron Ramos each dished out four assists.
- Myles Copeland tallied 29 points.
- Maurice Hunter scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
- Pete Smith netted 11 points.
- Copeland and Marcus Winters recorded five assists a piece.
- The Comets travel to play Alma College Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
