OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team will host Hope College this Wednesday night in a "Throwback Game" inside the Upton Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. The Upton Gymnasium is located at 210 E. Cottage Street in Olivet.
"We are excited about having a Throwback contest," said Olivet head men's basketball coach Steve Ernst. "I am also thrilled for the opportunity that our players will get to play in a gym where many great former Olivet players like Randy Morrison played. For a night, we are will try to bring some excitement back to the old gym. We need everyone who bleeds red and white to be there and cheer us on as we play a great Hope team."
Construction on the Frederick S. Upton Center started in the summer of 1979, and finished in time for a dedication on April 24, 1981. The first basketball games were played starting in the 1981-82 season. The last basketball game at Upton was played February 23, 2008, as the Comet men defeated Calvin College, 82-65. The gym is used today for practices for Olivet's athletic teams as well as intramural sports. The 25-yard pool inside the facility is used by the Olivet swimming & diving teams for practice and competitions.
