Men’s basketball team defeats Robert Morris-Peoria, 99-89, for first win of season
Seniors Eric Ewing and Aaron Washington combined to score 57 points to help the Olivet College men’s basketball team beat Robert Morris University-Peoria (Ill.), 99-89, this afternoon at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

KENOSHA, Wis. – Seniors Eric Ewing and Aaron Washington combined to score 57 points to help the Olivet College men's basketball team beat Robert Morris University-Peoria (Ill.), 99-89, this afternoon at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The game was part of the 2016 Carthage College Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets started the game on an 8-0 run.
- Olivet saw its lead grow to 24 points, 33-9, before the Eagles could reach double figures in the scoring column.
- Robert Morris scored five quick points to make the score 33-14 before the Comets went on a 13-2 run to go up 46-16.
- Olivet then settled for a 32-point lead, 55-27, at halftime.
- The Eagles opened the second half on a 9-3 run to trim their deficit down to 22 points, 58-36.
- Robert Morris closed the gap to 18 points on three occasions, with the last time being 73-55, at the 11:40 mark.
- The Comets then scored seven consecutive points to push their lead back to 25 points, 80-55.
- Over the final nine minutes of the game, the Eagles outscored Olivet, 34-19, for its final margin of defeat.
FOR THE COMETS
- For the game, Olivet shot 59.7 percent (37-of-62) from the floor and 52.9 percent (18-of-34) from the free throw line.
- Ewing had a game-high 34 points on 15-of-24 shooting. He also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
- Washington scored 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including five three-pointers.
- Senior Zach Walker netted nine points and dished out six assists.
FOR THE EAGLES
- Jake Stephens led Robert Morris with 24 points.
- Markus Johnson had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 55 points scored in the first half was the most by Olivet in one half since Nov. 16, 2013, when it had 55 against Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University.
- The 99 total points is the most in a game since Nov. 11, 2013, when the Comets scored 108 against Illinois Tech.
