Men’s basketball team loses 91-44 to Calvin
The Olivet College men’s basketball team lost 91-44 to Calvin College tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team lost 91-44 to Calvin College tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Comets scored the first three points of the game on a three-pointer by freshman Nick Niznak. That would be their last lead of the game as the Knights answered with back-to-back baskets to go up 4-3. Calvin's biggest lead of the first half was 21 points, 37-16, with 4:05 left. Olivet closed to within 14 points, 39-25, before settling for a 41-25 deficit at halftime. The Knights stretched their lead to 53 points late in the game.
For the game, the Comets shot 28.1 percent from the floor compared to 47.1 percent for Calvin. The Knights also made four more shots from three-point range, as well as 13 more free throws. Olivet was led by sophomore Quintin Way who scored nine points, with three three-pointers. Freshman Jermell Johnson grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Nate Drews came off the bench to score 20 points to lead Calvin. Jordan Daley netted 17 points and pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Mike Siegel and Austin Parks finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Comets make the trip to play Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
