The Olivet College men’s basketball team suffered a 94-59 setback to Indiana Wesleyan University today at Luckey Arena in Marion, Indiana.
MARION, Ind. – The Olivet College men's basketball team suffered a 94-59 setback to Indiana Wesleyan University today at Luckey Arena in Marion, Indiana.
The Wildcats scored the first basket and never looked back. IWU's 33-point lead, 59-26, at halftime tied for its largest lead of the opening 20 minutes of the game. In the second half, the Wildcats pushed their lead to as many as 43 points on two occasions, with the last time being 81-38 at the 7:58 mark. The Comets got as close as 33 points, 92-59, with 1:10 left in the game.
For the game, Olivet were 19-of-52 from the floor but were nearly perfect 20-of-21 (95.2 percent) from the free throw line. For a second straight game, senior Lee Gardner came off the bench to lead the Comets in scoring with 23 points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes. Junior Eric Ewing joined him in double digits with 11 points.
Lane Mahurin was one of four IWU starters in double figures with 22 points. Bob Peters added 17, while Jacob Johnson and Jonny Marlin had 12 and 11, respectively. Peters pulled down a team-best six rebounds.
After being on the road for seven of their first eight games, Olivet returns home to face Capital (Ohio) University next Thursday, Dec. 17. Tip-off from The Cutler Event Center is 6 p.m.
