OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team ended its 2014-15 season with a 71-58 loss to Trine (Ind.) University today at Hershey Hall in Angola, Indiana.
The Comets led by four points, 9-5, after junior Alex Antic made a free throw to complete an "old-fashioned" three-point play with 15:40 left in the first half. The Thunder scored six of the next eight points to tie the game at 11-11. After another tie, 13-13, Trine went on a 15-4 run to go up 28-17.
Olivet cut its deficit down to six points, 30-24, after freshman Jake Zielinski drained a three-pointer with 3:34 left before halftime. The Thunder extended their lead to 13 points, 41-28, at halftime.
Trine stretched its lead to as many as 24 points twice in the second half, with the last time being 71-47, at the 5:20 mark. The Comets scored the final 11 points of the game for their final margin of defeat.
Despite the loss, Zielinski and senior DeOndre Callahan each scored 12 points to lead Olivet. Callahan also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Jared Holmquist paced the Thunder with 26 points and nine rebounds. Tyler Good joined him in double figures with 18 points.
