Men’s basketball: Comets lose to Calvin, 75-49
The Olivet College men’s basketball team fell to Calvin, 75-49, today at Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) co-leader Calvin College, 75-49, today at Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids.
The Knights got off to a fast start, scoring the first eight points of the game. Calvin eventually built a 15-point lead, 37-22, with 27 seconds left before halftime. Freshman Devinn LoVette made a layup to make the score 37-24 at the break.
The second half was much the same for the Knights, as they led by as many as 30 points twice. The last time was 73-43 at the 3:48 mark.
Senior DeOndre Callahan scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Comets. Freshman Jake Zielinski contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore R.J. Haas chipped in nine points. Senior Blake Krum dished out four assists.
For Calvin, Jordan Daley posted team-highs in points (15) and rebounds (seven). Austin Parks and Brad Visser finished with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Olivet closes out the first half of its MIAA schedule next Wednesday, Jan. 28, when it welcomes the other MIAA co-leader Trine (Ind.) University to The Cutler Event Center for a 7 p.m. game.
