Men’s basketball: Comets fall to Wheaton, 94-67
The Olivet College men’s basketball team fell to Wheaton (Ill.) College, 94-67, tonight in a first round game of the Lee Pfund Classic in Wheaton, Ill.
WHEATON, Ill. – The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Wheaton (Ill.) College, 94-67, tonight in a first round game of the Lee Pfund Classic in Wheaton, Ill. With the loss, the Comets will play University of Wis.-Eau Claire in the consolation tomorrow night at 6 p.m. CT. Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) defeated UW-Eau Claire, 72-61, in the other first round game.
In tonight's game, Olivet forged a 15-15 tie on a tip-in basket by sophomore R.J. Haas at the 12:33 mark of the opening half. From there, the Thunder went on a 15-2 run to take a 30-17 lead and eventually took a 47-28 lead at halftime. The closest the Comets would get in the second half was 16 points on three occasions, with the last time being 54-38 when senior Blake Krum made a three-pointer.
Senior Jordan Union led Olivet with 18 points and six assists. Sophomore Eric Ewing provided 10 points and team-high four rebounds off the bench.
Brayden Teuscher was one of four Wheaton starters in double figures, scoring a game-high 23 points. Peter Smith contributed 17 points, while Michael Berg and Louis Miller had 11 and 10, respectively. Smith grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Following tomorrow's game, Olivet will travel to play Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) next Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
