OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College football team opens the 2018 season tonight under the lights against Heidelberg (Ohio) University. Kick-off from Hoernemann Stadium in Tiffin, Ohio, is 7 p.m. Fans can follow the game via live stats, video and audio. Links are below as well as above.

The Comets enter the 2018 season with high expecations. Senior quarterback Lane Porter returns to lead the offense. A year ago, he broke the Olivet single-season record with 2,546 yards. His favorite receiver from a year ago, senior Jacob Jodway, is also back. Jodway hauled in 39 passes for 892 yards and eight touchdowns. A host of other receivers will add depth to the receiving corps. Look for senior Jamaul Martin and sophomore Matthew Ellis are expected to handle the running back duties. Seniors Trenton Monroe and Chris Talbott have game experience at the tight end position. The offensive line returns several players from last year's team.

The defense has a mix of veterans and newcomers. The most experienced players are at the linebacking spot. Seniors Chase Cavric, Brian Freiberger and Mo Young all played that spot. The secondary is led by sophomore cornerback John Adams III, a 2017 All-MIAA First Team selection. Senior Coleton Swims is back after missing the last half of the 2017 season with an injury. The defensive line has the least varsity experience.

The special teams are led by junior Douglas Pollard who is expected to handle all kicking duties. A year ago, he made 19-of-26 PAT kicks and five field goals, while averaging nearly 60 yards per kickoff. Adams III and Martin are also going to handle return duties.
