Black named MIAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Olivet College senior quarterback Braden Black has named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Football Offensive Player of the Week. He is receiving this honor for the second time this season.
FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College senior quarterback Braden Black has named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Football Offensive Player of the Week. He is receiving this honor for the second time this season.
Black threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns on 29-of-38 passing (76.3 percent) to lead the Comets to a thrilling 54-48 overtime win against Benedictine (Ill.) University Oct. 22 at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. He also carried the ball 15 times for 69 yards and a touchdown. With the 398 yards, Black became the second player in MIAA history to eclipse the 10,000 yards of total offense plateau.
In the game, Black threw a seven-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 1:56 left in regulation to tie the game. In overtime, he tossed a nine-yard touchdown on third down to win the game.
For the season, Black has completed 125-of-138 passes (62.2 percent) for 1,548 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also has a team-best 76 carries for 218 yards and three touchdowns.
Black and the Comets are back in action Saturday when they resume MIAA play with a 1 p.m. home game against Alma College.
