WACO, Texas – Olivet College sophomore punter Ryan Anderson has landed a spot on the 2015 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) NCAA Division III All-America team. Anderson is in elite company, as he and Ryan Armstrong are the only players in school history to be named to the AFCA All-America team.
Anderson finished the 2015 season with a 41.8 average on 32 punts. He would rank fourth nationally among NCAA DIII punters, but he did not punt enough times to be included in the rankings, where a punter must average 3.6 punts per game. Anderson's punting helped the Comets post the second-best net punting average at 37.89 yards, as opponents were able to return only four punts for 23 yards. He did not have a punt blocked, five covered more than 50 yards and nine were spotted inside the opponent's 20-yard line. Anderson's longest punt went 69 yards.
The AFCA's Division III All-America Selection Committee is made up of three head coaches from each of the AFCA's nine districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee. The coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts prior to a conference call between the district chairmen and the committee chairman on which the team is chosen.
Olivet completed the season with a 9-1 overall record, with the nine wins being the most in school history for one season. The Comets shared the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title with a 5-1 record.
