Six football players earn All-MIAA honors, Armstrong named Defensive MVP
Six Olivet College football players have been named to the 2014 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) teams.
FREELAND, Mich. -- Six Olivet College football players have been named to the 2014 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) teams. Highlighting the selections was senior Ryan Armstrong being selected as the MIAA's Defensive Player of the Year. Junior offensive lineman Jacob Cramer joined Armstrong on the first-team.
Junior wideout Kyle Bryson, junior tight end Dominik Givens, sophomore running back Damorria Lilly and junior offensive lineman Ty Rozema are second-team selections. All-league honors are based on the player's statistics during the six-game league schedule.
In MIAA play, Armstrong ranked first with 16.5 tackles for loss, including tying for the lead with eight and one-half quarterback sacks. His single-game high was 12 total tackles, with seven and one-half for negative yards in Olivet's win over Kalamazoo College. Armstrong is the 10th football player in school history and the first since Marc Miller in 2007 to be named an MIAA Most Valuable Player.
A 2013 first-team All-MIAA selection, Bryson ranked among the league leaders in receiving with 29 catches for 349 yards and four touchdowns. Givens had nine catches for 110 yards from tight end position. Lilly led the MIAA in carries (167), rushing yards (737), touchdowns (10) and scoring (60 points). He rushed for a single-game high 219 yards against Trine (Ind.) University. Cramer and Rozema helped block for an offense, which was third in total offense (398.8 ypg).
For the entire 10-game schedule, Armstrong was second on the team with 61 total tackles, with 22.5 tackles for loss yardage, including 10 quarterback sacks. Bryson caught 43 passes for 538 yards and 10 touchdowns. Givens had 15 receptions for 181 yards. Lilly rushed 217 times for 1,023 yards and 14 touchdowns. Cramer and Rozema helped the offense average 435 yards per game.
