Three student-athletes named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV football team
Olivet College sophomore tight end Ryan Adams (Middleville High School), sophomore offensive lineman Jeff Iciek (Hopkins High School) and junior running back Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School) have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District IV football team.
OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College sophomore tight end Ryan Adams (Middleville High School), sophomore offensive lineman Jeff Iciek (Hopkins High School) and junior running back Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School) have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District IV football team.
All three advance to the national Academic All-America ballot. The All-District IV teams are nominated and selected by sports information directors in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve with a 3.20 or higher cumulative grade point average (GPA).
Adams has a 3.54 GPA. He has started all nine games for the Fighting Comets this fall, and has caught seven passes for a 11.4-yard average with two touchdowns. With Olivet's Wing-T offense, the tight end position is used primarily as a blocker.
Iciek has a 4.0 GPA in business administration major. He has started every game at right offensive tackle for the Comets. Iciek has helped block for Olivet's rushing attack, which ranks first among all NCAA divisions at 410.4 yards per game (ypg). Among NCAA Division III schools, the Comets are eighth in total offense at 482.7 ypg and sixth in scoring offense at 44.4 points per game.
Sleight carries a 3.96 GPA in a double major of health, physical education and recreation, and mathematics. This year, he has 100 rushing attempts for 533 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns along with six receptions for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Sleight leads the team with 13 touchdowns and 78 points, which are Olivet single-season records. He also holds the school all-time career record with 34 touchdowns and 204 points. Sleight was also selected to the 2003 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV team.
The Comets will conclude their 2004 season when they travel to play Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College this Saturday, Nov. 13. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. Olivet enters the game with a 7-2 overall record and 4-2 mark in MIAA play.
