DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Olivet College cheer team finished the 2019 National Cheerleaders Association Intermediate All-Girl Division III Championship in seventh-place on Friday, April 5.
The Comets moved up to the seventh-place spot after sitting ninth after Thursday's semi-final round. In the finals, Olivet scored 91.17 points, with zero deduction points, for an average score of 90.9209 points.
The Comets were competing at the championships for a third straight year. In its previous two appearances, Olivet finished in last place.
"To move up from a last place finish the last two years to seventh-place this year is quite impressive," said Olivet cheer coach Lisa Ash. "At this pace, the possibility of a national title is definitely within our grasp. The best thing is the team learned this year that structure and hard work pays off. I cannot wait to see what this program can accomplish in the future.
"I also want to thank Olivet College and the athletic department for their continued and unwavering support of our programs. It gives female athletes a varsity program which allows them to grow not only as a student but also as an athlete and a leader."
