Baseball: Olivet loses 4-3 to Wisconsin Lutheran

RANTOUL, Ill. – The University of Olivet baseball team let a 3-0 lead slip away, as Wisconsin Lutheran College rallied to beat the Comets, 4-3, today in a neutral-site contest at the Rantoul Family Sports Complex.

- Records: Olivet 2-4 overall, Wisconsin Lutheran 2-4 overall
- The Comets took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top half of the first inning. Olivet extended its lead to 3-0 with another run in the second inning.
- The Warriors tallied a run in the fourth inning on a solo home run before adding two more runs in the sixth to tie the game.
- After the Comets left the go-ahead stranded in scoring position, Wisconsin Lutheran scored what proved to be the game winning run in its half of the eighth.
- The Comets were retired 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth inning.
- Junior Brendan Monroe and sophomore Will Myrick each had two hits and an RBI.
- Myrick stole three bases.
- The only other hits were by seniors Matthew Fennell and Gabriel Kirck.
- Junior Andrew Vendzuh was charged with the pitching loss. The run he allowed was unearned.
- Sophomore Charlie Quilliam started on the mound and retired 11 straight batters to start the game. Overall, he allowed three earned runs on five hits, while striking out six.
- The Comets play a three-game series next Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10, at Wilmington (Ohio) College. The current plan is a doubleheader Saturday, starting at 1 p.m., and a single game Sunday, beginning at 12 p.m.
