Baseball team loses to Earlham, 12-10, in season-opener

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Olivet College baseball team fell to Earlham (Ind.) College, 12-10, this afternoon in its season-opener at Randal R. Sadler Stadium.

- The Comets built a 6-0 lead, scoring single runs in the first three innings before pushing across three runs in the fourth inning.
- The Quakers began their comeback when they scored three runs in the home half of the third. Earlham added two more runs in the fifth to close the gap to a single run. The Quakers plated seven runs in the seventh inning to take their first lead, 12-6.
- Olivet battled back with a four-run eighth to cut its deficit down to two runs. The big hit of the inning was a three-run homer by junior Gabriel Kirck.
- In the top of ninth, the Comets had a one-out single and a double to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Two strikeouts ended the game in favor of Earlham.
- For the game, Olivet recorded 16 hits compared to six for Earlham. The difference in the game were the Comet pitchers combined to walk 12 batters and hit five. The Quaker pitchers issued three walks and one hit batter.
- Senior Sylas Woll went 4-for-4 with two triples and three runs scored.
- Kirck had two hits and drove in five runs.
- Junior Alex Rose collected three RBI, with two sacrifice flies.
- On the mound, junior Keegan Kuha was tagged with the loss.
- Max Fries was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI.
- Nathan Lancianese scored three runs.
- Hayden Scalf earned the pitching win after throwing three and two-thirds innings of relief.
- Jacob Renner pitched the ninth to earn the save.
- The Comets and Quakers continue their three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 12 p.m.
