Baseball team swept by Albion in MIAA-opening doubleheader, 10-0 and 2-1
The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Albion College in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opening doubleheader this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The Britons won the first game 10-0 and then took the nightcap, 2-1, in 10 innings.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Albion College in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opening doubleheader this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The Britons won the first game 10-0 and then took the nightcap, 2-1, in 10 innings.

- The Britons pushed across one run in the second inning before erupting for seven runs in the sixth inning and two more runs in the seventh inning for the 10-0 final score.
- Olivet was held to two singles – one each for junior Aaron Gillespie and freshman Matt Hewitt.
- On the mound, junior Tim Sines was charged with the loss. He gave up six runs on 10 hits over five and one-third innings.
- Mitch Shedlowsky went the distance on the mound to earn the win. He struck out nine and walked one.
- Five players had multi-hit games.
- Joe Turnbull was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
- The Comets took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Sophomore Ben Compton hit a two-out single and hustled around the bases to score on freshman Hayden Zimmerman's double over the right fielder's head.
- The Britons used a sacrifice fly to even the score in the fourth inning.
- Albion used a two-out rally to score the winning run in the 10th inning.
- Olivet tallied eight hits in the game.
- Compton and junior Riley Bennett each went 2-for-4 at the plate.
- Sophomore Max Daust started on the mound. He gave up an earned run on eight hits over seven and one-third innings.
- Junior Matt Rehfeldt suffered the loss. He allowed a run on two hits over the final two and two-thirds innings.
- Albion collected 10 hits, with seven of the nine starters recording at least one hit.
- Kellan Huang, Dylan Perry and Drew Olszewski each had two hits. The only extra-base hit was a double by Huang.
- Scott Grant pitched the first nine innings to pick-up the win. He scattered eight hits, struck out nine and did not walk a batter.
- Bret Chesla threw a perfect 10th inning to earn the save.
- The teams will finish the four-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader tomorrow at Champions Stadium at Frank Joranko Field in Albion. First pitch for game one is at noon. Note, the start time was moved up one hour due to impending weather.
